Southwest Airlines® has partnered with the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) and U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) to participate in TSA PreCheck®, a pre-screening initiative that allows a select group of passengers the ability to move through security checkpoints with greater efficiency and ease when traveling.
Eligible participants will be allowed to use dedicated TSA PreCheck lanes in participating airports for screening benefits which could include no longer removing the following items:
Southwest Passengers that are eligible for TSA PreCheck include:
Additionally, using its Secure Flight system, the TSA will also proactively prescreen Passengers who are traveling, with the goal of possibly pre-clearing more Passengers to use TSA PreCheck lanes. These passengers will not be required to submit any additional information, submit an application, or pay a fee. However, TSA will be able to provide some of these Passengers with the opportunity for expedited screening on a flight-by-flight basis by analyzing information already provided by Passengers through existing Secure Flight program requirements such as name, date of birth, and gender.
Accompanying passengers 12 and younger are allowed through TSA PreCheck lanes when traveling with eligible passengers (parent or guardian).
Please note: Although participants in the CBP's Trusted Traveler programs (Global Entry, NEXUS, SENTRI and the TSA PreCheck Application Program) and Rapid Rewards Members who have opted into the program are eligible for expedited screening, no one is guaranteed expedited screening. Eligibility is determined by the TSA on a per-flight segment basis. Additionally, if a Customer’s Southwest reservation has an international destination the Known Traveler Number may be added by calling 1-800-I-FLY-SWA (1-800-435-9792).
When an eligible Rapid Rewards Member receives notification that he/she is eligible for expedited screening, Southwest Airlines will share certain information with the TSA Secure Flight System.
Note: Only reservations booked after you become eligible will qualify for expedited screening.
Trusted Traveler participants will need to provide their CBP-assigned PASS ID number in the "Known Traveler #" field during the booking process at southwest.com® and swabiz.com. The passenger’s Trusted Traveler information will be submitted along with reservation information to TSA’s Secure Flight system. Trusted Traveler program members should also remember to enter their full name, date of birth, and PASS ID exactly as it appears on their membership card.
Any active duty, U.S. Armed Forces service members in the Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, Marine Corps, and Navy, as well as the Reserves and National Guard, can also include their DOD ID in the KTN field during booking. (Effective for travel on December 20th and after.)
Additionally, CBP Trusted Traveler participants can add their PASS ID number to their Rapid Rewards Member profile to have the number automatically sent to TSA when booking reservations. Remember, you must be logged into your Rapid Rewards account when booking a reservation for the information to prepopulate.
It is not necessary for CBP participants to also opt-in through a participating airline. Members are automatically eligible to participate by virtue of their enrollment in the CBP qualifying program.
If the TSA determines a passenger is eligible for expedited screening through the TSA PreCheck security lanes, the text "TSA PRE" will appear in the upper left corner of their boarding pass or security document.
Please note: Even if "TSA PRE" is indicated on your boarding pass, the airport from which you are traveling might not be participating. At this time TSA is unable to filter selection results to exclude flights departing from airports where TSA PreCheck is unavailable.
Interested Customers who do not receive a TSA opt-in invitation and are not already a member of a CBP Trusted Traveler program may still be able to opt-in TSA PreCheck by applying for one of CBP’s eligible programs or by applying via the TSA PreCheck Application Program.
